Addiction can happen in any family, to anyone around you and you won’t even know it. Every story is different but at the end of the day, we all feel the same. I was a resident of The Lilly Pad in West Palm Beach for 9 months and it was the second best decision of my life. The first was to get professional help in a treatment program in February of 2010. Early in my treatment, I was against the idea of an aftercare program until I spoke with several women who lived at The Lilly Pad. After meeting these beautiful ladies, the decision to go into an aftercare program was an easy one as I knew I needed assistance stepping back out in the world. I had no immediate family in Florida so I needed a place to call home. The Lilly Pad provided me the comfort and stability I needed in order to get back into society and lead a clean and sober life. The women I lived with became my anchor and gave me the advice, support and love I needed to regain confidence in myself when I needed it most. The foundation and structure of the program provided me with the tools I needed to live a healthy life and allowed me to trust and believe in myself again. The responsibilities we were given were not only to ourselves but to each other. We became a family! I have 6.5 years of sobriety under my belt but I am always a work in a progress. The Lilly Pad gave me everything I needed to move on with my life and I am forever grateful.
